Chicken Wire Masthead

A message from Wally Cekala

Wally

Welcome to the September issue of Chicken Wire! Plenty of good things are happening at Willow Tree this month. For starters, we're pleased to announce our first Biggest Winner, Fran C., in our "How Do You Willow Tree?" contest. We've never been happier to donate $1000 to a most worthy cause. Read all about her - and August's monthly winner, Elizabeth D.

There's good news, too, about our new chicken pies - with Classic Vegetables and Red Bliss Potatoes - and fresh gravy. Early reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. If you haven't tried one of our new pies yet, please do, and tell us what you think!

Elsewhere in this issue, we'll show you what NBC 10's Frank Colletta thinks about us and preview the Turkey Trot, Willow Tree's 5K Race scheduled for Thanksgiving morning.

Finally, in this season of change, we've taken the opportunity to change our tagline. While we will miss, "Gotta Love the Tree!" our new tagline, "Freshness by the forkful," speaks more to the value and experience we strive to bring to our customers every day.

As always, if you have any suggestions for future issues, feel free to contact me. Remember to "like" us on Facebook, and keep entering "HDYWT?" early and often. Just click here. I'll see you in the next issue.

Congratulations, Fran C.!
Our first "How do You Willow Tree?" Biggest Winner!

Fran C. likes to prepare her Willow Tree Chicken Salad in a certain way:

"On toasted bread sandwiched between a slice of American white cheese, a slice of tomato, another slice of cheese and then broiled for a minute or two until the cheese melts.

Little did Fran know that this simple, yet delicious creation would one day earn her $1,000 for her favorite charity.

Fran’s name was selected from scores of entries in our “How Do You Willow Tree?” contest. As the Biggest Winner, we’re pleased to donate $1000 in her name to the North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) Cancer WALK.

After all, Fran helped launch the NSMC Cancer WALK and served as the event’s Coordinator from 1991 until 2006. Now retired, she still enjoys supporting the event any way she can. Says Fran, “The WALK has always been about the patients. That was true during the 15 years I was involved in planning the WALK, and it’s the same spirit that drives the WALK today. On the day of the event, every person—no matter how deeply cancer has affected their lives—always has a smile on their face.”

“How Do You Willow Tree?” is a natural extension of what our customers have been telling us for years.

“Chicken salad lovers have been sharing their creative ideas with us informally for years,” says Wally Cekala, “so we thought, why not find a fun way to collect all these great ideas for enjoying chicken salad and, at the same time, give area residents a chance to help their favorite charity? Fran is a great first winner.”

As the Biggest Winner, Fran also gets to choose a great prize for herself. Not surprisingly, she has picked a winter’s supply of Willow Tree Chicken Pies.

Once again, congratulations Fran!

Kudos to our August Winner!

Elizabeth D. does it like this:

"We Willow Tree with celery and a bit of onion for a little zip. Of course, it has to be on the freshest roll possible too. Yum!"

Congratulations, Elizabeth!

Mugging it up with Frank Colletta

What's in Store?

Good question! Well, for one thing, we have a new manager. Meet Rebecca Lyons. As Manager of Willow Tree's signature retail location in Attleboro, Rebecca is responsible for all retail store operations, including inventory and staff management.

"It's great to be part of the Willow Tree tradition," she says. "I'm so looking forward to managing the store that started it all."

Rebecca will see to it that the store is always inviting and easy to shop, the food is fresh, and everything is ready for her customers. In the weeks ahead, that means lots of free samples.

"In October, we'll be sampling Willow Tree's very own butternut squash and, later in the month, a wide variety of seasonal fruit pies."

"And don't forget - it's never too early to reserve your farm-fresh Thanksgiving turkey from Willow Tree!"

Sounds like you're really hitting the ground running, Rebecca!
